To let your AdGuard app run successfully in the background, do the following: Below are some actions you might attempt to perform if you run into any trouble regarding AdGuard's background work on various Xiaomi devices. Sometimes apps just don't work right on Xiaomi phones and there's little that can be done about that. They are known to limit background processes and have non-standard permissions with a lack of proper documentation to top it off. Xiaomi (and especially MIUI) devices are among the most troublesome ones when it comes to background work. To make sure apps background processing works, set up the following:ġ) Go to Mobile Manager → PowerMaster → Settings (or Battery-saving options) → Uncheck Clean up in suspendĢ) Go to Mobile Manager → PowerMaster → Settings (or Battery-saving options) → Uncheck Auto-deny apps from auto startingĪlternatively, instead of unchecking Auto-deny apps from auto starting entirely, you can go to Settings → Battery-saving options → Auto-start manager → AdGuard and uncheck it. to block apps from starting and to kill background tasks when your screen turns off. It is pre-installed and has pretty aggressive default settings, e.g. The main source of potential problems with background work on Asus devices is associated with the optimization app called Power Master. We're going to update this part of the article when we know more. Information on Asus devices is still far from being exhaustive so there may be more issues than listed here. Note that instructions for different manufacturers are mostly very similar. To avoid the background app termination, you need to follow the steps we described separately for each manufacturer (version) of Android OS. It may be inconvenient to relaunch them each time they are getting closed. In some cases, apps won't stay in the background ("alive" or in a sleep mode) due to the Android OS optimization function, or the so-called "battery save mode" - this function can kill background apps. And of course, disable the hotspot and turn the WiFi back on when the Bluetooth connection is broken. How to protect AdGuard from being disabled by the system In my case, I wanted to start the hotspot when my Android phone is connected to the Bluetooth connection of my car. You can set the triggers, the actions and conditions for each macro. Creating a macroĬreating a macro’s is really simple. You can create triggers based on location (based on GeoFencing or cellphone towers), connectivity, sensors (light, motion, etc), user input (buttons) to device events. The number of triggers that are available amazed me the most. But for my use case 5 macro’s are more than enough. With MacroDroid you can create 5 macro’s for free, and if you want more you will need to Pro plan ($5 – one-time purchase). I found MarcroDroid an easier tool to use. You can create flows in it that look really nice, but the interface is a bit hard to master. There are a couple of apps available for free in the Play store to create macro’s on Android. And I was pretty amazed at how easy it is and what all the possibilities are with macros on Android. To start the hotspot on my mobile phone every time I enter my car isn’t going to work, so I needed to automate my Android. Now my new car doesn’t have a built-in internet connection but needs a WiFi network (mobile hotspot) to get the latest traffic information. But I do like to automate things or to make things ( like my home) smarter. Normally I don’t write about Android or mobile phones in general.
